Art + Practice (A+P) is a private operating 501(c)3 foundation based in the neighborhood of Leimert Park in South Los Angeles. A+P supports the local needs of transition-age foster youth, and children experiencing displacement worldwide through its collaborations with nonprofit social service providers First Place for Youth and Nest Global. A+P also provides Angelenos with free access to museum-curated contemporary art, organized by the California African American Museum.
Admission to all art programming is free and open to the public. A+P occupies a nearly 20,000 square foot campus, from which it organizes its art and foster youth-related programs and activities. This campus includes:
The California African American Museum at A+P is a five-year collaboration (2022-2026) that brings CAAM organized shows to A+P’s exhibition space, and develops a hub for CAAM to incubate new programming. In return, A+P dedicates financial and staff resources to CAAM’s vision in support of the museum’s residency in Leimert Park. The current exhibition, Bahia Reverb: Artists and Place, is on view until March 2, 2024.
Art + Practice is located in historic Leimert Park Village — a 1.19 square mile neighborhood in South LA founded by Walter H. Leimert in 1927. The Village includes a central town square, park, tree-lined streets, shops, and eateries.
Parking and Public Transportation at A+P: There is metered parking available on Degnan Boulevard and West 43rd Place. Free street parking can be found in the neighboring residential area with a two-block walk to A+P. Bus lines that stop nearby are 40, 102, 210, 705, 710 & 740. A+P is serviced by the Metro Crenshaw/LAX Line in the light rail system. The station is Leimert Park.
Admission to all exhibitions and programs are free. A+P does not review or accept any unsolicited artworks or portfolios submitted by email, mail, or in person. A+P does not rent out any part of its campus for events or programs.
